Lisa Marshall on Vocals/Rhythm Guitar; “…her strong soul voice. And a soul music voice she has. We dare even to say the best white soul voice of the moment.” – Freddy Celis www.rootstime.be. Marshall hails most recently from Seattle. There she performed solo with “The Blonde”, her semi-hollow body electric guitar, and often joined by the raucous, soulful three part call-and-answer trio, The Dirty Girls! She released her first solo CD titled ‘Simple’ in May of 2008. The group was invited to the famous Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, TN as the feature for The Sunday ‘Songwriter’s Spotlight’. Born and raised in Virginia Beach, VA, Marshall was brought up on The Beatles, Blues ala Janis Joplin, the Allman Brothers, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, and her mother’s favorite, Elvis and Motown. In addition to vocals, Lisa also plays guitar, bass, flute, harmonica, drums and percussion. At the age of 21 Marshall moved to California. It was in L.A. where she co-founded and fronted Peculiar Boogie with Rebekah Coltman (guitar) & Susan Joyner (keys)for a decade. Their band was a unique blend of female fronted Southern Rock featuring R&B style vocals and harmonies. The band played and showcased at some of L.A’s hot spots such as Troubadour, and the Roxy. Robben Ford, Koko Taylor, and Big Brother and the Holding Company are some of the acts that Peculiar Boogie supported. The band received air play in California and Europe regularly. Marshall’s drive to learn and push herself is evident by her current CD, ‘Simple’, where she is the singer, songwriter, producer, and engineer. This self produced CD ‘Simple’ has sold over 4,000 copies and is available on CDBaby, Itunes and other digital sites. ‘Simple’ is in rotation at KOOP, KAZI in Austin and various European radio stations.
Mary Harsh on Bass; who studied with Chuck Rainey (Rock Steady-Aretha Frankiln), and was personally invited to attend Victor Whooten’s bass camp in 2009.
Russell Scanlon on Guitar; ”Scanlon, usually seen with the Samba Police, made yet another case for designation as one of the city’s most eclectic enlightened guitar heroes.” -Michael Point, Austin American Statesman. Russ has performed with The Austin symphony, Bernadette Peters, Martha and the Vandellas, and more.
Johnny Radelat on Drums; He also plays with one of Austin’s funk favorites, The Greyhounds. The band recently opened for Guitar Shorty at the famed Continental Club.
